Dr A Aruleswaran, Managing Director and Principal Consultant,

| Dr.
A Aruleswaran is LSS Academy’s principal consultant
and a strategic advisor aiming to assist companies to
develop strategies and execution planning through continuous
improvement methodologies. Dr. Arul began his career
as a technical assistant for Minsec Engineering Services
in 1994 and continued to site management, leading a
group of 50 contract employees in an engineering fabrication
facility. Following this, Dr. Arul pursued a degree
and Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering at Oxford Brookes,
Oxford, UK.
Moving
into a career of research and development, continuous
improvement and Lean 6 Sigma, Dr. Arul joined Alcan
in Banbury Laboratories, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom
in 2001. He started as research scientist for Aluminium
rolling and continuous casting process and engineering
measurement technologies later moving on to Novelis
Inc Global Technology Centre in Kingston, Ontario,
Canada in 2004 for Lean 6 Sigma based continuous improvements,
strategic and multi-generational planning for the
Aluminium Light Gauge Metal business group and Technology
Innovation group.
Among
Dr. Arul’s finest Lean 6 Sigma achievements
was a project to scope out a suite of projects to
eliminate losses of process waste. The 6 sigma project
is estimated to return US $3MM in value creation and
reduce the dependence of tier 1 material supply. The
project has both a positive economic and environmental
impact. Dr. Arul led that project using a diverse
group of engineers and operations personnel using
the methodologies of Lean 6 Sigma. This work broke
new ground by developing the required methods and
tools to perform “scoping projects” and
will serve to lead others to do the same.

Tham Chek Chung, Managing Partner
and Principal Consultant,

Tham
Chek Chung is a Managing Partner of LSS Academy Sdn
Bhd. Tham is als a Principal Consultant providing training
and coaching to organisations in a range of industries
embarking on continuous improvement based on the Lean
Six Sigma Methodology. This includes providing executive
overviews as well as Green Belt training. Clients include
Newcrest Mining and DHL South East Asia. Tham also provides
face-to-face coaching for Black Belts and Green Belts
who are involved in overseeing and running their own
Lean Six Sigma projects. Armed with a degree in Mechanical
Engineering from ichita State University, Kansas, USA,
Tham began his career in 1996 as a Production Engineer
in an electronics company. Moving on to join an aluminium
manufacturing company, from the Alcan/Novelis group,
he moved into a range of different positions including
Process Engineer, Team Leader, Assistant Manager and
Black Belt during this ten year tenure.
While holding managerial positions, he led a group of
forty people and was responsible for non-stop production
including overseeing safety and quality. His ability
to solve problems effectively and innovatively led to
bigger and more complex roles and as a certified George
Group Black Belt, Tham was frequently involved in Kaizen,
TPM, task force team and Lean Six Sigma projects. Some
of the most recent Black Belt projects he completed
related to productivity improvement and capital reduction.
with consequent results in projects returning a value
of US$500K annually.
Additionally, Tham has been involved in and responsible
for project selection, training and coaching of Green
Belts and guiding them towards project completion with
good results.
Currently, Tham is doing substantial work in belt coaching
and training with the likes of DPWN, Clariant Asia Pacific
and MIMOS, a local research centre. Married with two
children, Tham’s interests including reading scientific
journals, badminton and motoring.

Eric Lau, Vice President of Leadership Development,
Leaderonomics

| Eric
Lau is the Vice President of Leadership Development
at Leaderonomics. He is a strategic leader with a relentless
belief in people. His wide experience in leadership
development and strategic brand building in multinational
companies has gained him keen insights into the fast-paced
demands and changes of organisations today. His personal
mission is to inspire and influence others to rise up
to their full potential and calling. Eric regularly
leads training programmes for Fortune 500 multinationals
and local GLCs such as Petronas, ACS, Kimberly Clark,
Philips, Sime Darby and Microsoft.
Eric
has extensive experience working with multinationals
such as Pepsi and Unilever. At Pepsi, he was part
of the core team that spearheaded many creative and
successful campaigns and innovative products like
Pepsi Twist, the Britney Spears Campaign as well as
the Manchester United Campaign in 2001.
While
at Unilever Malaysia in 2002, Eric was appointed lead
brand custodian for Lipton, Unilever’s largest
worldwide food brand. In a food category that had
experienced stagnant growth for many years, Eric’s
leadership drove a staggering 30% value growth within
one year. His marketing campaigns were showcased around
the world and gained recognition as “best practice
case studies” for brand building. Eric also
orchestrated the launch of Lipton Ice Tea in Malaysia.
In addition to crafting the business plan and marketing
strategies, he was responsible for developing the
entire channel architecture to penetrate both retail
and out-of-home segments. He later moved onto a regional
role in Unilever, and was responsible for planning
and executing a wide and comprehensive brand activation
campaign for a portfolio of leading brands (Lipton,
Knorr, Ladies Choice, Skippy and Planta) across Malaysia
and Singapore.
Currently,
Eric is also part of the world-wide faculty of one
the world’s most renowned and largest training
organisations. He is licensed to conduct training
programmes worldwide in the areas of leadership, management,
communications and human relations. Eric is a board
member of a non-profit organisation that actively
reaches out to the developmental needs of an indigenous
(orang asli) group in Raub, Malaysia. He is an avid
reader and has developed “bookshop-browsing”
into a hobby. Eric currently resides in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia and is happily married with two lovely kids.

bin Hj Abu Bakar brings with him 30 years of experience
in the Manufacturing and Human Resources field. Having
started his career in manufacturing, Mohamad shifted
his career path into Organisational Development and
Human Resources, at Motorola. Mohamad has since held
(as a HR professional), positions in various multinationals,
such as; Assistant General Affairs and Employee Relations
Manager at Samsung Electron Devices Sdn Bhd; Human Resources
Manager with National Semiconductor Sdn Bhd; General
Manager, Human Resources with Rashid Hussain Bhd; Sr
Vice President, Organisational Development and External
Affairs with Silterra Malaysia Sdn Bhd; Human Resources
Director with Pfizer (Malaysia/Singapore) and currently

Throughout
his career Mohamad has been involved in Organisational
Redesign efforts involving corporate wide culture
building and revamping Human Processes. Mohamad was
a member of the core team that started – up
the ‘greenfield’, Silterra Malaysia Sdn
Bhd, Malaysia’s first Semiconductor Wafer Fabrication
Plant at Kulim Hi-Tech Park. Mohamad
has received several accolades and recognition through
his work llife, the pinnacle of which was when, he
was awarded the inaugural recipient of the “National
Human Resources Award for Outstanding Achievement
for the Year 2000” presented by the Deputy Prime
Minister of Malaysia in 2001.
Mohamad
is happily married to Azimah bte Alwi and is blessed
with a daughter, Intan Suraya and a son, Mohamad Sophian.Mohamad
studied Diploma in Business Studies (off –campus)
at ITM.

R Panneerselvam, Deputy Director, Micro Small &

Panneerselvam is the Deputy Director of the Micro Small
& Medium Enterprises DI in Chennai, India. With
more than twenty five years’ organisational experience,
Panneerselvam is a good administrator with a proven
track record of conducting Milestone Programmes with
the MSME-DI.
Paneer has designed and developed programmes pertaining
to Six Sigma Concepts, initiated waste identification
and systematic elimination in MSMEs through Lean Practice
Programmes as well as pioneered the Virtual Smalll Appenture
Terminal (VSAT) education for mass outreach in skill
enhancement. Instrumental in generating the highest
revenue for MSME-DI, Chennai among all MSME-DIs in the
country with fifty per cent revenue contribution, Panneer
has also organised a number of enterpreneurship and
skill development training programmes. As a sequel to
the specialised training attended at the Durham Business
School, UK, Paneer has organised many specific training
programmes for the empowerment of women.
Consequently, an exclusive association was formed to
foster the interests of the budding women entrepreneurs
represented. Panneer has also compiled and published
three volumes of an Entrepreneurship Manual for the
benefit of prospective entrepreneurs groomed by MSME-Di
throughout Tamil Nadu. |

Roshan Thiran, Chief Executive Officer, Leaderonomics

| Roshan
Thiran is CEO of Leaderonomics, a social enterprise
supporting leadership development amongst all ages across
Asia Pacific. Previously, he was Director of Global
Talent Management with Johnson & Johnson and was
also with the General Electric Company (GE) for more
than 12 years, working in a number of roles in the US,
in Europe and in Asia. Roshan began his career at GE
Investments in Stamford, CT, USA leading the start-up
efforts of a mutual fund as an Investment Analyst. He
was later drafted into GE Capital’s Financial
Management Program (FMP) and had a number of Finance
assignments with various GE Capital businesses, GE International
in Shelton CT and also leading an integration at GE
Global Compression Services in Dallas, TX.
Roshan
then joined National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC)
at its Rockefeller Center, New York City hub as News
& Sports Analyst responsible for 6 news programs,
The Today Show, Dateline, and Sunrise and lead the
MSNBC cable network start-up efforts. Roshan then
moved to London, UK, to take on a cross-functional
pan-Europe sourcing role for GE Capital Europe focusing
on acquisition and integration of Sourcing operations
and processes across Europe and the US. Roshan returned
to the US in 1998 to join GE Corporate Initiatives
Group (CIG), GE think-tank, to be project manager
of global Y2K efforts and driving global initiatives.
In
April 1999, Roshan moved to Malaysia as CFO &
Executive Director of GE Engines Services Malaysia
(GEESM). Roshan helped grow GEESM from $30million
to a US$160 million shop and helped in its successful
turnaround. In 2001 Roshan took on a leadership development
role with GE Crotonville as a Learning Leader, spearheading
the training and leadership development efforts in
Asia Pacific and Australia.
In
2003, Roshan took over as Director of HR Asia Pacific,
overseeing Finance organizations across Asia. He had
responsibility for Finance training, organization
and staffing issues across Asia including pipeline
programmes like FMP and Corporate Audit Staff (CAS).
In 2007. Roshan moved out of GE and took a role as
the Director of Global Talent Management for Johnson
& Johnson. He supported J & J’s global
emerging leader programme design and implementation
and the Global Succession Planning and Performance
Management projects in addition to his talent management
responsibilities in Asia.
Roshan
is certified in numerous programmes including Executive
Coaching, Myer-Briggs Type indicator, Change Acceleration
Process, WorkOut, Strategy, Finance education and
other leadership programmes. Roshan has the rare distinction
of achieving a perfect score evaluation from a training
session he conducted in China. His infectious, unorthodox
and inspirational teaching style are well-received
across various geographies and people groups from
Europe, the US, Middle East and across Asia.
Roshan
is currently married to Emelia and has an active young
son Yoshua. Roshan is constantly connecting with people
from all walks of lives and spends a lot of his time
working among poor and under-privileged communities

Nandakumar is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering and
has more than 22 years experience in various quality
improvement initiatives in many reputable manufacturing
and service establishments in India.
Nanda began his career in marketing various state of
art quality control equipment manufactured in Japan,
Europe & USA. He visited many reputed manufacturers
of precision parts for automotive, defence, aerospace
and other industries in India to understand the complex
inspection requirements and offer them the right solution.
He had also visited many manufacturers of these inspection
equipments in Japan, UK & USA for product knowledge
and application training.
Since 2001, he has become associated with PQ Systems,
Australia and had conducted various
training programmes focused on quality improvement.
Having conducted more than 200 programmes on ”Continual
Improvement Using Statistical Techniques” in India,
Nanda established a state of the art training facility
in Chennai in 2007 where he conducts regular training
programmes focused on imparting technical knowledge
and sharpening management skills for various executives
in manufacturing enterprises.
Nanda is a black belt in Six Sigma and has a passion
for quality and productivity improvements. He currrently

| Samuel
Kurian is CEO, Leaderonomics Strengths.
He
started his career doing an internship with the Proctor
and Gamble Company USA, as a field Advertising Representative
in Boston, Massachusetts. He then return to Malaysia
in 1986 and joined a leading Power and Utilities Company
in Malaysia in their Hotels and Resorts Division as
part of the pre-opening team in one of their boutique
private island resort heading purchasing then on to
Human Resources. From there he opened a city hotel
for the company as their Human Resource leader. Samuel
was then recruited by Asia’s leading Hotel and
Resorts Group as their Human Resource Leader in one
of their premier 5 Star Business Hotel. Samuel developed
programmes and initiatives that lead to the Hotel
getting the Prime Ministers Quality Award and the
ISO certification the first Hotel to do so in Malaysia.
From
here Samuel spent 6 years with a Multi National Bank
overseeing regional support and client services as
Head of Management and Development. He was responsible
for setting up the Bank’s Global Shared Services
Centre in Kuala Lumpur, and migrating wholesale and
consumer banking operations from 26 countries of Asia,
Africa and Middle East into this centre, and in the
process, the centre grew from an initial 200 headcount
to 2,400 within 4 years. The key leading programs
and development Samuel implemented included Senior
Management Leadership, Implementing Six Sigma Quality
(including a leadership jumpstart in collaboration
with Motorola University), Change Management (China,
India, Malaysia), and a re-engineering Group Corporate
Banking Operations project in 2005.
Samuel
is a certified coach and has accreditation in numerous
leadership development and training programs including
DISC, Myers-Briggs, Gallup’s Strengthsfinder
and GE Work Out, Change Acceleration Programs, Senior

Sherman
Yap is the Area Head of Procurement South East Asia
& First Choice Senior Advisor, DHL Express Singapore
Pte Ltd. Sherman started his professional career with
Andersen Consulting as a marketing and finance consultant.
He also spent time in managing training programs, system
design, development and testing at its US headquarters
for two years. He completed his Masters in Business
Administration at the Asian Institute of Management
and over the course of the next ten years, specialised
in joint venture negotiations and project management
and development in the Philippines, Vietnam and China.
Moving to Lafarge Philippines, affiliated with one of
the leading construction materials company in the world,
Sherman institutionalised the strategy and business
development programme for its cement operations. After
two years, he became Vice President, Procurement for
the entire cement operations, managing an annual spend
of more than US$150 million. Aside from his current
functional responsibility, Sherman is a Senior Advisor
Gold Certificate which is equivalent to a Master Black
Belt certificate in Six Sigma. He is the only Gold Certified
person in Asia Pacific and was the third such person
within the entire DHL Global network of 500,000 employees
to earn such a certificate.
With more than twenty years’ experience under
his belt, Sherman continues to challenge himself by
venturing into new fields. Over the last four years,
he has gained valuable experience in Six Sigma which
fits perfectly with his management and technical skills
in corporate planning, strategy, and logistics. Sherman
is also a certified Change Management Trainer and certified

Sulynn

She

Sulynn
has 23 years of research, management and consulting
experience working in several industry sectors. An
erstwhile economist-statistician and human resource

of capacities, Sulynn is passionate about people and
lifelong learning. Sulynn
holds a bachelor degree in economics (finance &
accounting, and organizational behavior) at Monash
University, Australia, a B.Sc (Psychology) from Upper
Iowa University, and qualified as Chartered Company
Secretary and Administrator (RMIT, Australia). She
was the first Asian to graduate with the pioneer class
of Master of Applied Positive Psychology led by Prof
Dr Martin Seligman in 2006 at the University of Pennsylvania.
