The
Art and Science of Great Leadership
Is there really a science to leadership? Why do you
need to consider the art of leadership as well? Having
a better understanding of group dynamics and being able
to foster greater teamwork will mean making great strides
in productivity and collaboration. But far more than
anything else, the art of leadership is about being
able to influence people and which influence rests on
knowledge and competence as opposed to position or authority.
|
Effective
leadership also calls for reflection and introspection,
something managers find increasingly difficult to manage,
given the workloads managed and the hurried pace that
business so demands. How we choose to lead and our interpretation
as to what it really means will impact how we move ahead.

What
Does It Take to Manage Successfully?
If
change is the only constant, accepting this is key to
managing through any endeavour. You need to manage change
yourself as an individual and as a manager leading a
team. You need to be able to show your people the light
at the end of the tunnel and develop them as effective
change agents. As a leader, you are a facilitator of
change. You welcome it with open arms, you embrace it.
What does it mean then to manage change successfully?

First
Choice (Six Sigma) links up with Talent Management
Six Sigma Programmes have been around for the past three
decades. Tools and methodologies pertaining to its use
still remain popular and are widely accepted. Much of
the literature is however, focused on the technical
components of Six Sigma and yet, one of the critical
success factors is undoubtedly the level of employee
engagement.
|
Here,
we provide insight into the need to link any Six Sigma
programme you undertake with the critical issues organisations
routinely face in managing talent. How we look to leverage
Six Sigma as one further approach to broaden employee
content as well as improve retention levels among key
managers is also for consideration. First Choice is
a long-term service excellence initiative of DHL across
287 of its country organisations.
