Put
Me In, Coach, and I'll Make a Difference in How the Game
is Played
By Stuart Ferguson
Oct
09 | When I became the Director of HR and OD at
a $50 Million per annum non-profit organisation, I was
looking forward to a seat at the table with my fellow
executives and a role in the decision making that would
shape the future of the |
enterprise.
In reality I became a tactical pawn of the leaders, playing
a minor defensive role in the whole scheme of things...

...and
After the Recession?
By Dr Bruce Hoag CPsychol
Oct
09 | Officially, France and Germany, and Hong Kong
and Japan are out of the recession, experiencing marginal
economic growth in the last quarter. Other parts of the
world haven’t been so fortunate. The economies of
the United States and the United Kingdom both still seem
to be shrinking, albeit to a lesser extent. Some countries,
such as Malaysia, seem to have escaped recession officially,
but nevertheless have felt its effects. We’re all
connected, whether we like it or not.

A
Happy Middle Ground
Jul
09 | Let the image of red balloons, of varying
size, bobbing up and down or just drifting lazily across,
settle in your mind's eye. Catch yourself smiling? Well,
you won't be the only one. Balloons are symbols of happiness
and fun, aren't they? And that seems to be the backdrop
for RedBalloon, a leading online gift retailer in Australia
and New Zealand. They have turned gift giving into a fine
art, selling you experiences. The name for the company
originated from the movie of the same name about a boy
and his adventures with a balloon. In 2001, Naomi Simson
left behind a successful marketing career to start RedBalloon
with a clear vision to change the gifting landscape and
has built the business into one of Australia's most successful
online gift retailers...

Living
a Quality Lifestyle
Jul
09 | In my years of research, analysis and programming,
I've discovered that we largely take our life for granted.
I've looked at lifestyles, customs, dietary varieties,
our traditions and belief systems, the fads that have
come and gone, treatments we all look at to solve our
problems and I see that people largely have the same needs,
desires and cravings regardless of race, creed or religion..... |

HR's
Big Test
Jul
09 | If we don't give out, how can we expect to
get any? I've been confronted enough times and in a number
of circles to see that for many of us, information hoarding
is about two things : power and fear. I have the information
and you don't. Does this translate to "I have the
means or the solution"? Holding information is only
part of the solution, if any. It's what you do with it.

Achieving
Work Life Balance
Jul
09 | The life of the Human Resources Manager prior
to the Global Economic Crisis was for the most part, focused
on assisting the business to attract and retain talented,
skilled employees. It was seen by best practice employers
as an important ‘bottom line’ issue, in that
to attract, recruit and employ a middle to senior level
executive can cost up to three times their annual salary. |

Ressler and Jody Thompson, ex Best Buy Inc employees and
founders of the Results Oriented Work Environment (ROWE)
Cali
and Jody argue that a ROWE is a proven Total Rewards differentiator
|
“I like working for a company that understands
life outside work. ROWE has enabled me to probably work
more hours, however feel that I have time for everything
in my life. I am therefore less stressed and can work
more and more efficiently. I feel more in control of
my work and that I have more to offer, which makes me
feel good as a person.”
- comments from employees working in a ROWE about
their experience at Best Buy's Corporate Headquarters.
