How
To Submit An Article or Opinion
HR
Matters Magazine accepts opinions and articles on any human
resource or people management topic. The suggested length
is 700 words but we will consider submissions of any length.
Our request is that by and large, these submissions are sent
exclusively to the HR Matters Magazine. If articles have been
printed elsewhere, we may consider republishing the piece
but that will be determined on a piece by piece basis.
Method of submission
-
Submissions may be sent in one of three ways - fax, post
or email. Preferred method is via email to editor@hr-matters.info.
For fax and post details, please visit the Contacts
page.
- Articles
submitted by email should preferably be sent as a word document
attachment and not written within the body of the email.
- All
articles submitted should include a basic profile of the
writer and further details such as blog, linkedin profile,
website and contact details.
All
submissions will be reviewed. Generally, submission review
may be subject to longer timeframes depending on print deadlines
at the time. If we plan on publishing your article, we will
get in touch with you. If we do not get back to you within
two weeks, please assume that we will not be able to publish
your article. Given the volume of submissions and many news
alerts we receive, we may not be able to call or email you
back in a timely manner, even if the article is rejected.
Any submissions sent in will not be returned.
Guidelines
- Despite
the fact that the publication is printed locally in Malaysia,
this is a publication with an international readership.
Article submission should therefore keep this in mind.
- Articles
with a local focus are accepted as well as articles with
broader themes or international focus.
- While
this is aimed at the HR professional, any person tasked
with, currently holding or who will soon be holding a managerial
role or people management role, will find the magazine focus
and theme coverage of use. Therefore, there is no strict
criteria to focus only on narrow HR topics. Other topics
such as communication, EQ, leadership, metrics, performance,
culture etc are also regular topics for discussion. A review
of the archived
table of contents of past issues will give a pretty accurate
indication of the breadth of coverage.
- Submission
of the article does not guarantee publication.
Factors
for inclusion
Decisions
on which essays or articles are published are governed by
a number of factors including :-
- Editorial
variety
- Themes
specific to our Editorial Calendar
- Timeliness
- Ingenuity
- Strength
of argument
- Freshness
of opinion and candour
- Newsworthiness
- Press
releases, product launches, newsy items and plugs are generally
not accepted for article submission. These should be submitted
earmarked for news publication. Space for news items in
the print issue is limited as more focus is placed on indepth
articles and opinion pieces. Newsworthy items may be published
on the website if suitable for the HR community.
- Originality
and not previously published. Submissions that are accepted
may be published in print or online at our website and referenced
in our regular eNewsletters. Originality is crucial and
while we generally prefer articles submitted to be unpublished
prior to submission, we may consider a reprint.
Article
submissions should also clearly provide information on
- when
the article was written
- whether
the article has been published before. If yes, how many
times it was published, where it was published and the date
of publication
- author's
details - one paragraph background, website and blog details
as well as provide a high resolution photo of author
Tone
and Style
We do advise you
to familiarise yourself with the magazine before you make
a submission so that you get a feel for the sort of topics
and issues we cover.
We aim to provide
readers with articles that touch on how people can be managed
and grown and this may include topics such as strategic HR,
workforce planning, metrics and analytics, communication,
culture, management, leadership, performance management, reward
and executive compensation and much more. We also aim to provide
our readers with stories and interviews that can inspire and
empower them to greater heights.
