Dorsett managers now bulletproof

Oct 2010 Kuala Lumpur | Fully equipped and trained to tackle all hotel management issues, at any property – 18 management associates from Dorsett International and its 4 Malaysian properties (Grand Dorsett Subang Hotel, Dorsett Regency Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Maytower Hotel & Serviced Residences, and Dorsett Johor Hotel) are now certified Bullet Proof Managers.

In 2009, Azizah Ismail, Area Director of Human Capital, Dorsett International, identified high-performing managers as the “future leaders” of the Dorsett group and selected them for The Bullet Proof Manager program.
Azizah explains, “The Bullet Proof Manager is part of our Talent Management initiative to develop our staff for their identified positions.”

“As a group of hotels, whenever an associate moves from one property to the other, it is important that they speak the same language and are equipped with the same knowledge. In turn, these managers will also train their staff the same way.”

The Bullet Proof Manager program spanned over 12 months and 24 modules, which allowed “experiential learning” as the Dorsett associates put their knowledge into practice. Using hotel-related examples in the training and applying their knowledge at work ensured that all principles were applicable.

Mary Lourdes, who recently came onboard Dorsett International as Area Manager of Human Resources, says, “It is definitely an enhancement program, based on the company’s core values and culture, preparing the team for the next level.”

Dorsett International selected The Bullet Proof Manager as it has been around for many years, making it one of the most reliable and relevant management training programs. “The program also brings managers back to the basics, focusing on communication, practical techniques and step-by-step guides,” Azizah says.

A graduation ceremony was held on 5 October 2010, where the 18 Dorsett associates were awarded their certificates as Bullet Proof Managers. Tokens of merit were also awarded to the best contributing participants.
